Join us for a Rocky Mountain High railroad adventure through Colorado. Travel on 5 scenic and historic trains across some of the highest altitude railways in America. We’ll ride the Georgetown Scenic Railroad, Silverton-Durango Railroad, Cumbres & Toltec Railroad, the Royal Gorge Railroad & the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. We’ve also included a guided tour of the Garden of the Gods and a Corkscrew Pass Jeep tour. Day 1 | Friday, June 19 – Toronto to Denver
Meet our coach at one of our pre-selected pickup points to head to Pearson Airport for our flight to Denver, Colorado. Upon arrival in Denver we will embark on a city tour before transferring to our hotel in the Denver area where we will spend one night and have free time for dinner on our own.
Day 2 | Saturday, June 20 – Denver to Grand Junction, Colorado (B, D)
This morning after an included breakfast we will check out and make our way to Georgetown for a ride on the Scenic Railroad. This open car locomotive chugs its way up the canyon taking you between Georgetown and Silver Plume over mountainous terrain and trestles. Our day will end in Grand Junction CO, where we will check into our hotel for one night before an included group dinner at Famous Dave’s BBQ joint.
Day 3 | Sunday, June 21 – Grand Junction to Durango, Colorado (B, L, D)
After breakfast this morning we’ll take a 3 hour Jeep tour over Corkscrew Pass into the Red Mountains. We’ll ride along high mountain cliffs past mining trails. A boxed lunch will be included. The jeep tour ends in Historic Silverton where we board the Silverton-Durango Railroad. This steam locomotive travels along the Animas River winding through the remote wilderness of San Juan National Forest. We will finish our day in Durango for one night. After checking into your room, dinner will be included at a local restaurant.
Day 4 | Monday, June 22 – Cumbres & Toltec Railroad in New Mexico (B,L,D)
This morning we will travel to Chama, New Mexico for a ride on the Cumbres & Toltec Railroad. Often considered the most beautiful ride in America, this coal-fired mountain railroad traverses 64 miles through Rocky Mountain tunnels and above deep gorges. A stop is made for lunch at the Lonely Osier Dining Hall near the halfway point. After our ride we will head to Alamosa, CO for a one night stay. After check-in, dinner at a local restaurant is included.
Day 5 | Tuesday, June 23 – Ride the Royal Gorge Railroad (B, L)
Today after breakfast we’ll depart for our ride on the Royal Gorge Train. This no frills train journey putts along the Arkansas River and through the soaring cliffs of Colorado’s Royal Gorge with an included boxed lunch. This afternoon, we’ll tour the Garden of the Gods – a National Natural Landmark in Colorado Springs with it’s own unique geology and Native Culture. Tonight we’ll check into our hotel in Colorado Springs for the next two nights. You will have some free time to grab dinner on your own.
Day 6 | Wednesday, June 24 – Ride the Pikes Peak Cog Railway (B, D)
After breakfast, we will head out for our final train journey of this trip. We will ride up Pikes Peak on the Cog Railway – which has been in service since 1891. After our ride, we’ll have time to explore the Manitou Cliff Dwellings, located at the foot of Pikes Peak. Later this afternoon we’ll have some free time before our final dinner. Tonight we’ll dine at the Flying W Ranch for a real Chuckwagon Dinner with entertainment from the Flying W Wranglers who specialize in vocal harmonies romanticizing the life of the American Cowboy.
Day 7 | Thursday, June 25 – Depart for Home (B)
This morning after breakfast, we will check out of our Colorado Springs hotel and make our way to the Denver airport for our flight home. Our motor coach will transport us to the Denver airport where we will board our return flight home. Our coach will await us to return us to our original pickup points.
